Abstract

The assessment of religious moderation is still in its early stages of development and is having difficulty accepting the criteria indicated. As a result, religious moderation is sometimes interpreted as being indecisive, only making judgments that favor certain people or groups, and seeming irresponsible by refusing to take a political stance. Furthermore, the concept of religious moderation is frequently misunderstood. Using the CFA validity test approach, this study attempts to create a religious moderation instrument based on a psychological paradigm in which an attitude is understood based on particular ideas (beliefs), emotions, and prior behavior toward religious moderation (Confirmatory Factor Analysis). We define religious moderation as the middle way or not being extreme in one view (tawassuth), upholding balance and justice (i'tidal), appreciation of life's diversity (tasamuh), relying on consensus-based problem-solving (Shura), engaging in constructive good deeds for the common good (ishlah), is active and innovative in leading goodness (qudwah), and can accommodate the state, nation, and culture (muwwathanah). The study's findings reveal three (3) aspects of religious moderation, represented by characteristics such as particular ideas (beliefs), emotions, and prior experiences connected to the principles of religious moderation discussed above.

Abstract

Distance learning has an impact on decreasing university students’ motivation to learn. Meanwhile, learning motivation is fundamental in the distance learning process. Learning motivation correlates with internal factors such as self-efficacy and emotional intelligence and external factors such as parental social support. This study aimed to find alternative factors that support learning motivation and examine the relationship between self-efficacy, emotional intelligence, and parental social support with learning motivation in university students carrying out distance learning during the COVID-9 pandemic. The study used quantitative research with the correlational research type involving undergraduate students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta with a total of 408 students. The Academic Motivation Scale-Short version (AMS) was used to measure learning motivation, the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) was used to measure self-efficacy, the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQUE-SF) was used to measure emotional intelligence, and the parental social support scale compiled by Fitrotin was used to measure parental social support. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression tests. The results of the study found that self-efficacy, emotional intelligence, and parental social support had a relationship with learning motivation. This was indicated by the positive value of Beta=27.284, p-value of 0.000 (p <0.005), the regression (F value) of 36.569, the correlation (R)= 0.467, and the effective contribution to learning motivation of 21.8%. Programs to increase self-efficacy, emotional intelligence, and parental social support are important to increase motivation.

Abstract

The intention to accurately predict the performance of social conflict behavior is influenced by stereotypes, social identity, and prejudice. Based on the dynamics of the relationship, this research aims to find the relationship between stereotypes, social identity, and prejudice with the intention of doing social conflict. Based on the analysis result, intentions are useful for preventing social conflict. This study used purposive sampling with the participants of 150 students in the 10th grade of State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Belitang in East Oku Regency, South Sumatra Province. The research data were collected using a social conflict intention scale with a total of 21 items with the item determinant (rit) ranging from 0.274-0.777, a stereotypes scale with a total of 24 items ranging from 0.291 to 0.841, a social identity scale with a total of 21 items ranging from 0.290 to 0.897, and a prejudice scale with a total of 21 items ranging from 0.400. -0.796. The results of data analysis using multiple linear regression showed that the correlation coefficient of R is 0.269 with the p = 0.000 (p <0.05), which showed a significant positive relationship between stereotypes, social identity, and prejudice with the intention of social conflict. Based on the research results, the intention of a social conflict occurs because of stereotypes in which people give negative attributes or traits to other parties, social identity that causes bias to judge other groups, and prejudice that causes hostility to members of other groups. These findings can be used for conflict prevention by minimizing the intention of social conflict by changing stereotypes into positive judgment, knowing that social identity does not affect the objective judgment of other groups, and reducing prejudice so that a peaceful situation can be realized.

Abstract

Students who have an optimistic attitude are expected to have a strong belief in their abilities. With optimism, students who memorize the Qur'an can show various good behaviors to maximize their potential, thereby strengthening self-efficacy so that they can continue to memorize the Qur'an and complete it based on the target. This study aims to determine the role of optimism and self-efficacy in memorizing the Qur'an. This study used quantitative research using a questionnaire to collect the data. The participants were 100 students of Elementary School (SD) X who participated in the tahfiz program. The optimism scale is based on aspects of Seligman's theory, namely permanence, pervasiveness, and personalization. In contrast, the self-efficacy scale is based on aspects of Bandura's theory, namely level, generality, and strength. Data analysis used a simple linear regression test. The results showed a significant role between optimism and self-efficacy, which was 44.9% (R=0.449, p=0.00<0.05). The regression equation between the optimism and the self-efficacy variables was positive, with Y= 13.379+0.508X. This equation means that for every 1% addition of student optimism, the student's self-efficacy will increase by 50.8%. Based on these calculations, it can be concluded that the higher the optimism, the higher the self-efficacy in memorizing the Qur'an in SD X Banjarmasin students.

Abstract

Job boredom is more often experienced by generation Y workers. This can be reduced by increasing challenging job demands. However, this factor does not always provide a long period to reduce job boredom. The existing phenomenon also shows that not only challenges, generation Y workers also want meaningful work. This study aimed to see the moderating effect of meaningful work in the relationship between increasing challenging job demands and job boredom in generation Y workers. Sampling was conducted on 327 generation Y workers (aged 23-40 years) throughout Indonesia. The data collection method used a questionnaire on job boredom (∝ = 0.714), increasing challenging job demands (∝ = 0.832), and meaningful work (∝ = 0.929). The main data analysis technique was using moderated multiple regression analysis. This result showed that meaningful work was a moderator in the relationship between increasing challenging job demands and job boredom. Increasing challenging job demands itself could reduce job boredom, but the result showed that meaningful work was more consistent in reducing job boredom than increasing challenging job demands. Therefore, besides providing challenges, meaningful work is also important to get the organization’s attention so the workers, especially Generation Y, do not experience job boredom.

Abstract

The study examined occupational stress and job engagement among library personnel at selected Nigerian state and federal universities. A descriptive survey methodology was employed in the study. This study used questionnaires for ascertaining work engagement and occupational stress to survey 76 respondents. Results indicated that library personnel experienced high occupational stress, which displayed significantly low levels of job engagement. In contrast, those with a low level of occupational stress showed significantly increased levels of engagement at work. The data suggested that female library personnel reported experiencing more occupational stress than male library personnel and the mean difference was statistically significant, t (74) = -3.416, p =.001. The limitation of this research includes the smallness of sample size, which calls for a larger sample to validate the findings further. Rational emotive behavioral therapy can be adapted for managing the levels of work engagement and occupational stress in librarians.

Abstract

This qualitative study aims to determine and analyze Indonesian students' psychological well-being in Turkey. In addition, it is intended to explore students' experiences when studying in Turkey and reveal what and how vigorous efforts were made to adapt to a new country. The research approach used was phenomenology, which pays more attention to the individual's subjective experience. The researchers then interviewed students who had just lived in Turkey for one year and students who had been in Turkey for more than one year. Hopefully, it could be explored more in aspects of the psychological well-being of students studying in Turkey. The study results highlighted that several elements affected students' psychological well-being during the adaptation period in Turkey, including different food, a quite complicated language to learn, different weather, association with international students, and not easy adaptation on campus. Furthermore, self-defense efforts to stay strong and motivated by new students in Turkey comprised of holding motivational halaqah, visits (monitoring) to new students' residences, maximizing WhatsApp groups, and bringing in motivators from outside.
